Openers & Closers Fire Safety and Solutions

Fire doors are an essential part of a building's fire protection and must always have a self-closing system and can never be locked.

The mission of any fire door is to slow the progression and spread of fire, to allow safe evacuation and to facilitate both rescue and extinguishment.

To determine the classification of fire doors, manufacturers must evaluate their doors by testing them according to the European specifications of EN 1634-1:2016+A1:2018.

The most commonly specified fire integrity and fire resistance levels are E, EW and EI, the latter being the most thermally insulating.

Thermal insulation is subdivided into two categories Ei1 and Ei2, with Ei1 being the most stringent and difficult to achieve in fire resistance tests. In countries such as Spain, the most common standard is Ei2. As a general rule, if the degree of thermal insulation is not specified, it will always refer to Ei2.

The tests are performed on complete assemblies, including locks, electric strikes electrical, door retainers, door closers, electromagnetic locks, hinges, etc., for their correct certification as a whole.

OPENERS & CLOSERS fire protection products have been inspected and certified in fire resistance tests, obtaining the CPR code (Construction Products Regulation) accompanied by the corresponding CE marking and the Declaration of Performance (DoP).

The CPR code is a harmonized standard for the marketing of construction products in the European Union and guarantees the reliability of information on their performance. An annual production audit is indispensable for the continued validity of the certificate.

At OPENERS & CLOSERS we are specialists in door locking systems since 1989, and we have a wide range of approved products for fire doors, being pioneers in the use of MIM (Metal Injection Moulding) technology to design the parts according to these requirements.

Approved electric strikes or electric strikes for fire doors require a complex certification process to ensure that the fire is kept isolated and does not spread throughout the building, thus protecting people's lives.

The fire resistant electrical and electronic electric strikes , not only have to perform their function in normal situations but must be manufactured with special materials to withstand high temperatures up to 1,150ºC, ensuring that the door will remain closed in case of fire.

We are the only company to incorporate a thermo-expansive material inside the striker that instantly locks the internal mechanism in contact with high temperatures, to offer a second protection and prevent material shrinkage from releasing the door.

To check that a electric strike or electronic device complies with the fire protection degree, we must visualize the label code according to EN 14846:2008 - "Building hardware. Locks and latches. Locks and electric strikes electromechanical locks and latches. Requirements and test methods " and validate that it complies with the building requirements.

It must be taken into account that a fire door can never remain open in case of emergency, therefore electric strikes with negative security (functionality Fail-secure) will be the only ones suitable for installation, omitting those models with manual release lever or positive security (reverse functionality).

On the other hand, electromagnetic door retainers also fulfill a vitally important function, they are mechanisms that allow the release of the door and close it in case of emergency to isolate the area and prevent the spread of fire. These elements are approved according to European standards EN1155 and EN14637.

Our priority is the safety of people, and for this reason, we carry out a meticulous control of our products so that they are duly certified according to the current construction regulations and approved according to the corresponding European regulations.

At OPENERS & CLOSERS we guarantee the highest quality of our products.
