Electromechanical locks are security devices installed on the door leaf as opposed to electric strikes electric locks which are installed on the frame. They offer long-lasting, low-maintenance performance, especially when there is a high frequency of use.

What is an electromechanical lock?

The locks can be used in many areas and can be adapted to any type of door, whether wood or steel. Performance characteristics vary depending on the quality of the materials and can be used in multiple fire systems or for emergency doors.

To transfer the current from the lock to the frame to the door, in most cases accessories such as electrical contacts or grommets embedded inside the frame are used for a more aesthetic installation.

It offers long-lasting, low-maintenance performance, especially when there is a high frequency of use.

Terminal strip

It is an important component that allows the connection of the lock to the power supply and access control.
It is a fundamental part for its correct operation, since it facilitates the connection and distribution of the electrical power and control signals necessary for its operation.

Moving element

It can be either a solenoid or a motor.
The solenoid is a coil of wire wound around an iron core, which, upon receiving an electrical signal from an access control, is activated and creates a magnetic field that moves the bolt.
The motor in turn opens the door thanks to a system of gears that move the bolt to lock the door.

Hand square

It is a square-shaped shaft that is located in the central part of the lock body and is connected to the door handle.
When the door handle is rotated, the square shaft moves and activates the locking mechanism, thus allowing the lock to be opened or closed.

Pin

The moving part that extends from the lock and is inserted into the door frame to secure the door.
The bolt is a critical part of the electric lock, as it is the component responsible for providing the security necessary to prevent unauthorized opening of the door.

Key cylinder

It is a cylindrical component located on the outside of the lock and contains an internal mechanism that is activated by the correct key.
When the key is inserted into the cylinder, it actuates the pistons of the internal mechanism and, if the key is the correct one, the lock is activated allowing access.

Mechanical systems

Manually operated locks do not require any electrical components for their operation. They are locks that are frequently used mainly on interior doors and do not need to offer high security unless they are used for very special applications.
The operation requires a handle or cylinder for opening and locking. In some cases, such as latches, they also incorporate the possibility of blocking the slide from the inside by means of a spring.

Electrical systems

Electric strikes incorporate a powerful solenoid that allows immediate activation for Fail-secure (normally closed) and Fail-safe (normally open) functions.
They can be operated remotely by means of a coded keypad or push button, and in some cases also manually by means of a handle or cylinder.
Most electric locks consist of electropiston or bolt locks that are notable for their immediacy of operation when powered by electricity.

Motorized systems

Motorized locks are the most complex and high security locks for securing building interiors. They incorporate a geared motor that precisely activates the lock.
They are mainly found for Fail-secure (normally closed) functions and in panic doors for emergency exits.

Locks for Surface mount

To increase door security quickly, locks from Surface mount can be installed mechanically, electrically or motorized. These locks adapt to any type of door and are installed on the inside of the door, being more distant from the outside to prevent tampering. It is common to find Surface mount locks with a single locking point by means of a cylindrical bolt or multipoint for greater resistance to impact.

Mortise locks

They are the most widespread locks on the market and are installed inside the door leaf. We can find mechanical, electric and motorized mortise locks that adapt to the DIN of the door by simply turning the latch. Their main applications are in wood or steel doors and depending on the type of profile, we will find mortise locks with needle from 20 to more than 65 mm. Their installation is more discreet and does not affect the visual aesthetics of the door. They cover a wide range of applications and unlike the locks of Surface mount, they can be installed on exterior doors.
